The Airfree Sterilizers present an excellent value. Other than the initial cost to purchase, there are no filters to replace and it uses very little electricity. We gave them a 4 star rating based on their ability to address specific issues of pathogen removal and neutralization of allergens.
Pluses:
- Kills all pathogens: such as mold spores, bacteria, viruses, and pet dander at 99.99% efficiency.
- Room Coverage: The Airfree air sterilizers have coverages of 450, 550, and 650 square feet, which reviewers found surprising consider their small size and lack of fan.
- Silent: The Airfree air sterilizer is completely silent and it still gets the job done. Great for the office or those bothered by noise in the bedroom at night.
- User Friendly: You turn on the Airfree air sterilizer and forget about it! There is only one speed and the instructions are to leave it running and not move it.
- Maintenance Free: One of the most appealing aspects of the Airfree air sterilizer is that it has no filters and requires no maintenance. A true economic advantage over traditional air cleaning systems, which often require replacement filters.
- Independently Tested: The Airfree air sterilizer has been tested in hotels, libraries and banks, as well as laboratories and research centers with published results
- Prevents food from developing mildew: Kitchens equipped with an Airfree air sterilizer will help keep food from developing mildew; extending the shelf life of your cheese, bread, fruits and other perishables.
- Reduces ozone: Independent tests show the Airfree air sterilizers are one of the only air cleaners that will reduce ozone present in the air. The Airfree air sterilizers have the ability to reduce ozone by 26% with each air pass.
- Lightweight: At less than 3 lbs, the Airfree air sterilizers are extremely lightweight, and easy to move or carry.
- Safe - No fire risk: The Airfree air sterilizers have an automatic shut-off feature to prevent overheating if air intakes are blocked. This feature is also invoked if the air sterilizer is tilted, near a heater, or too close to a wall. When the auto shut off is triggered, the unit will have a blinking red light.
- The Airfree air sterilizers to not dry out the air. Independent testing has been done to show running an Airfree air sterilizer does not have any affect on the humidity level of a room.
- Soft blue light night light: has a dimmer control that allows the brightness to be adjusted to fit your preference or the light can be turned off. This is an aesthetic feature and is not required for the Airfree Air sterilizer to function.
Minuses:
- Although it does reduce ozone by 26%, it has been found to do little for removing general gases, chemicals, and odors since it has no carbon gas filters.
- Waiting period: Because the Airfree air sterilizers do not have a fan, they move air through convection which is a slow process and therefore results are not immediate. Best results are achieved over a period of continuous use for 21-30 days, however, test results show a 70 - 90% reduction in micro-organisms in 10 days.
- Does not reduce the amount of dust or large particles present in the air: Because the Airfree air sterilizers do not use filters, they will not reduce the amount of particles that are in the air. They will however neutralize the part of the particle that causes allergic reaction.
- Plastic off-gassing: We found that the Airfree air sterilizers do off-gas for a day or two when first turned on due to the new plastic and the heat. Luckily the units will stop off-gassing after 24 to 72 hours of use.
Summary:
The Airfree Onix 3000, Platinum 2000 and P1000 Air Sterilizers are a great choice for someone looking to destroy mold spores, fungi, bacteria, viruses, and neutralize allergens. They are also one of the only air cleaners on the market that actually reduce the level of ozone in the air, and of course, do not produce any. They are not a solution for reducing the amount of dust in a home or for removing airborne gases or chemicals. An added plus for choosing an Aifree air sterilizer is it has no maintenance and no annual replacement costs! |
